The mineral garnet is the preferred abrasive for the sandblasting of bridges, ship hulls, oil tanks, oil pipelines, and pumping and drilling systems.

It is also ideal for waterjet cutting, and other uses such as water filtration systems and sewage treatment plants.

About Garnet

The unique geologic properties of garnet make it a superlative industrial abrasive.

With respect to hardness, specific gravity, and inertness, CRI's garnet is of an outstanding quality.

Environmental Advantages

Garnet has proven to be a cost effective alternative media for applications where silica sand, which is now known to have health risks, would traditionally have been used. This is due to its recylability, low material consumption rate, purity, and high productivity rate.

In its micronised form, garnet is used in the production of high gloss finishes on modern TVs and computer screens, the polishing of glass and plastic optical lenses, and the finishing of airplane skins.

With recent environmental restrictions on the use of silica (sand) and other blasting agents, garnet has become the abrasive of choice for industrial applications.

Industrial Uses

Garnet is used for heavy-duty abrasive blasting and cleaning, as a fine abrasive powder, for waterjet cutting, and even water filtration.
